Horacio Oduber Hospital - Intensivist (Critical Care Physician)

Job Description

Currently there are 3 full-time intensivists working in the Intensive Care department, which at the moment consists of 6 ICU beds and 4 CCU beds (which are being run by the cardiologists). The hospital has the intention to expand the ICU to 8 and if possible, even to 10 beds in the near future, if we are able to recruit 2 additional intensivists.

The ICU is a mixed ICU in the only hospital in Aruba where almost all specialties are represented, including interventional cardiology and radiology, and neurosurgery.

The intensivists have recently become the main treating physicians. They have a weekly Multidisciplinary Meeting with an Infectiologist, pharmacist and consultant-physicians. The ICU does not have residents working and there is no backup anesthetist for the shifts.

Until the vacancies are filled, we try to work with at least one locum Intensivist, so that there is a minimum of 4 Intensivist. During the day, we work with 2 Intensivists. The Intensivist that is on duty will start in the afternoon and have the next day to recuperate. The ICU also works with some tertiary hospitals in Colombia, which are our backup for Cardiac Surgery, Complex Neurosurgery (coiling/clipping) and Pediatrics.

Responsibilities

You have a specialization registration (BIG or non-BIG registered). You are flexible and see it as a challenge to work as an Intensivist in Aruba. You have an affinity with other cultures. Speaking or learning Papiamento and/or Spanish language is a plus.
