Mental Health Foundation

The Mental Health Foundation is working in a team effort to realizing its dedication to providing the best psychiatric care the island of St Maarten can access.

Through the assistance of the Island Government, the MHF board, the MHF Staff, volunteers and partners, the Foundation has moved from its humble beginnings to a full-fledged psychiatric care system offering quality care on St. Maarten as well as to other neighboring islands like St. Eustatius, Saba, Anguilla .

We are currently financed through a subsidy from the Island Government, a budget from AVBZ for chronic care, and reimbursements for services received through our clients’ health insurances.

The Mental Health Foundation operates as a secondary health care provider which means that care can only be given after a referral from:

– A primary health care provider as in a general practitioner
– A secondary healthcare providers as in a treating specialist, the police doctor etc.

The Mental Health Foundation has the task of providing care to the community in five main areas called Care Products:

  1. Admissions
  2. Ambulant Care
  3. Clinic Care
  4. Crisis Intervention
  5. Faraja Day Treatment Center
  6. Information and Prevention
  7. Short Stay/Long Stay Facilities

In the course of 2010 the foundation added Admissions as a sixth care product to its services.

We work closely with the Police, Ambulance, Minister of Justice, Minister of Health, Schools, Capriles Clinic and Pharmacies, General Practitioners and the Private Sector.
